The Opportunity Cost Nobody Talks About (But Everyone Pays)

Every dollar you spend has two costs.

There's the obvious one — the thing you bought. And there's the invisible one — what that dollar could have earned if you'd kept it working.

Most people only ever see the first cost. The IBC practitioner sees both.

Nelson Nash's Core Insight

Nelson Nash built the entire Infinite Banking Concept around one idea: you are always dealing with borrowed money.

Whether you finance a purchase or pay cash, you're giving something up. Finance it, and you pay interest to someone else. Pay cash, and you permanently surrender the earning potential of that money.

Neither option is "free." The question is who captures the cost — you, or someone else.

The Cash Payer's Blind Spot

The Dave Ramsey crowd celebrates cash purchases. No debt, no interest, no problem.

But here's what they miss: every time you pay cash for something, that money's earning potential dies with the transaction. You saved diligently, you spent carefully, and then you started over from zero.

The IBC practitioner saves the same way — but in a policy. When they "spend," they borrow against the cash value. The policy continues to earn. They repay the loan. The earning potential never gets interrupted.

Same discipline. Completely different outcome over 20 or 30 years.

Why This Compounds Dramatically

The difference between interrupted and uninterrupted compound growth is enormous over time. Money that keeps earning — even while it's being used — outperforms money that stops and starts by a wide margin.

This is the mathematical foundation of why IBC works when it's done correctly. Not because of some insurance magic. Because of compound growth that never stops.

Your job as an IBC practitioner is to protect the compounding. Repay the loans. Keep the system running. Let time do the heavy lifting.
