A Lineman, 4 IULs, and One Book: Wes Howard's IBC Story

Wes Howard keeps the lights on for a living.

He's a lineman out of North Texas — storm work, contract crews, the kind of job where you earn good money and put your body on the line to do it. Not the profile most people picture when they think "IBC practitioner."

That's exactly why his story matters.

Debt Free Four Times. Broke Every Single Time.

Before discovering Infinite Banking, Wes had been debt-free more than once. He'd accumulated real money more than once. And he'd managed to lose it every single time.

"I've been debt free a couple of different times and I've had a wad of money a couple of different times and I messed it up all four times." — Wes Howard

He tried the Dave Ramsey route. He got pulled into multilevel marketing. Then he landed in an IUL — index universal life insurance — sold on impressive-looking projections and marketing he didn't fully examine.

Three years inside that IUL. Money compounding in someone else's system, in a product that wasn't built for banking.

The Book That Changed Everything

When COVID hit and a home remodel project snowballed on top of everything else, Wes hit what he calls his "crap moment." That's when he found David and Paul.

He didn't call them right away. He read Becoming Your Own Banker by Nelson Nash first. Then he read it again. And again. Four times total before he picked up the phone.

"I realized what I had messed up and what this potentially could be, but I had no idea how awesome it really was." — Wes Howard

By the time he called, he wasn't asking if IBC worked. He was asking when they could start.

What "Going 100 Miles an Hour" Actually Looks Like

Three years in, Wes is now on multiple whole life policies — properly structured, dividend-paying, issued by mutual companies. He uses them the way Nelson intended: as a banking system, not a savings account.

Policy loans have funded real opportunities. Capital that used to sit in a checking account now compounds uninterrupted. And when something comes up — an emergency, an investment, a piece of equipment — Wes isn't liquidating anything. He's borrowing from his own system and paying it back on his terms.

The IUL is gone. That chapter is closed.

Why the IUL Didn't Work for Banking

This is the part most salespeople won't tell you.

IUL — indexed universal life — is marketed heavily to people who want "market-linked growth without the downside." It sounds compelling. But it's a fundamentally different product than whole life, and it's not designed for the Infinite Banking Concept.

The cash value in an IUL is not guaranteed. The cost of insurance inside the policy increases as you age, eating into that cash value over time. The indexing caps limit your upside. And the flexibility that sounds like a feature can actually work against you if premiums aren't structured correctly.

Whole life from a mutual company is different at every layer. Guaranteed contractual cash value growth. Non-guaranteed dividends on top of that — from companies with 100+ years of consecutive payouts. No market correlation. No increasing cost of insurance eating your equity.

The policy becomes your banking system because it's designed to be stable, predictable, and permanent. The IUL isn't.

The Message Wes Has for Anyone on the Fence

When David asked Wes what he'd say to someone who's still skeptical, the answer was direct:

"Challenge your thinking first of all. Start here. Start at the foundation. You've got to get pissed off enough to get educated." — Wes Howard

He's not a financial advisor. He's a lineman who got burned by bad products, read the right book, and did the work. And now he's sharing it with every other lineman he meets — because if it works for someone who works with their hands in North Texas, it works for you.
