Why Whole Life Insurance Isn't a Product — It's a Process

You've heard it a thousand times: whole life insurance is a scam. It's expensive. It's a ripoff. It's too complicated.

Here's the problem. Everyone saying this is looking at the wrong picture.

The Product vs. The Process

When people talk about whole life insurance, they're almost always talking about it as a product to own. You buy it, you own it, you get a death benefit someday. That framing makes it sound bad because whole life is expensive when you're just buying a death benefit.

But that's not what infinite banking is about.

Infinite banking isn't about owning a product. It's about using a process. The process has three parts: banking, policy loans, and the vehicle itself. Once you understand these three as mechanisms — not features of a product — everything changes.

Why This Distinction Matters

When you view whole life insurance as a product, you're comparing it to term insurance. Term is cheaper, gives you death protection, and that's it. Whole life is more expensive and more complex. By that logic, term wins.

But when you view whole life as a banking process, you're asking a completely different question: "Can I use this to finance things I'm going to buy anyway?"

That's not a product comparison. That's a financial strategy.

The Real Value Is in the Living Benefits

Whole life insurance has two benefit streams: death benefits and living benefits. Most advisors only talk about the death benefit. That's why people think it's a bad deal.

The living benefits — the cash value, the policy loan feature, the ability to finance your own purchases — that's where the power is. And you only unlock that when you understand you're using a process, not buying a product.

This is why David keeps emphasizing: you're not comparing whole life to term. You're comparing financing through a bank to financing through yourself.

The Bottom Line

The moment someone dismisses whole life insurance as overpriced, ask them: "Compared to what?" If they say "compared to term insurance," they're looking at the wrong picture. If they say "compared to paying cash," then you're finally having the right conversation.

That conversation is about process. And process changes everything.
